Dr. Oz: Brilliant with Baggage

Dr. Mehmet Oz is a well known Cardiothoracic surgeon, author, retired professor, tv personality, presenter and politician. He graduated from Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania. He subsequently began his residency in surgery at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in 1986. In 2001, he became a professor of surgery at Columbia University, and later retired to professor emeritus in 2018. In 2003, Oprah Winfrey was the first guest on the Discovery Channel series Second Opinion with Dr. Oz, and he was a regular guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show, making more than sixty appearances. In 2009, The Dr. Oz Show, a daily television program about medical matters and health, was launched by Winfrey's Harpo Productions and Sony Pictures Television, running for 13 seasons. Oz's promotion of pseudoscience, including on the topics of alternative medicine, faith healing, and various paranormal beliefs, has earned him criticism from a number of medical publications and physicians. Medical Career

Oz began his medical career with a residency at the Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, then affiliated with Columbia University, in 1986 after being hired by Eric Rose. During his residency, Oz earned the Blakemore research award. In April 1995, Oz and his colleague Jerry Whitworth founded the Cardiac Complementary Care Center to provide various types of alternative medicine to heart disease patients. The publicity of Oz's work created tension with hospital administration, who expressed alarm at Oz's use of therapeutic touch, which he dropped in response to their objections.

In 1996, Oz and Rose received media publicity following their work on a successful heart transplant for Frank Torre, brother of New York Yankees manager Joe Torre, during the 1996 World Series, which the Yankees won. Rose later remarked that while he did not enjoy the media attention, Oz "loved it". Meanwhile, Oz and Whitworth's professional relationship grew strained due to the attention Oz was receiving; Whitworth later recounted in an interview with Vox that he asked Oz to "stop the media circus". In 2000, Whitworth departed the Cardiac Complementary Care Center, which Oz reopened that same year as the Cardiovascular Institute and Integrative Medicine Program at the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, where he served as director.

Oz became a professor at the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2001, a title he held until 2018. He has helped develop numerous devices and procedures related to heart surgery, including the MitraClip and the left ventricular assist device (LVAD), and by 2015 held a number of patents related to heart surgery.

In 2010, Oz joined Jeff Arnold as co-founder of Sharecare, Inc. In 2015, a group of 10 physicians demanded Columbia remove Oz from the faculty for his alleged "disdain for science and for evidence-based medicine". Columbia defended Oz and dismissed calls for his termination, saying that they are "committed to the principle of academic freedom and to upholding faculty members' freedom of expression". Oz responded to the call, saying "I bring the public information that will help them on their path to be their best selves" and that his show provides "multiple points of view, including mine, which is offered without conflict of interest."

He now holds the title "professor emeritus" and does not see patients. (Wikipedia).

So what we have here is very brilliant doctor with baggage, yes baggage.  He seems to be a bit of a publicity hound. If you think Oz is bad you try should looking at some of the stuff going on at UPMC in Pittsburgh. (I'll be covering that in a future story).  I did not watch Oz's tv show but some MD's I talked to said some it was good and some said it was over the top.  Wikipedia should be careful about labeling pseudoscience or supplements because they bought CDC's and HIH's "magic corona vaccine" that didn't work as planned. There are major papers now coming out about serious lethal side effects of these so called vaccines and the lies told by the pharmaceutical companies.  In fact, there are data reviews on how so called peer reviewed journals  rigged data and interpretation against Hydroxychloroquine and Ivermectin treatment for the pharmaceutical companies. "(from Yahoo News: A federal judge has ordered Dr. Anthony Fauci and other Biden officials be deposed as part of a lawsuit against the Biden administration, alleging that the government colluded with social media companies to censor free speech related to the coronavirus and other controversial topics.

According to a court order from the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, U.S. District Judge Terry Doughty concluded that Fauci’s high-profile public comments have made him a key figure in the lawsuit from the Republican attorneys general of Louisiana and Missouri who allege that “collusion” between the Biden administration and social media companies to censor coronavirus-related speech that could be damaging to the White House.

“Plaintiffs argue that even if Dr. Fauci can prove he never communicated with social-media platforms about censorship, there are compelling reasons that suggest Dr. Fauci has acted through intermediaries, and acted on behalf of others, in procuring the social-media censorship of credible scientific opinions.)"

Many MDs don't understand vitamins, nutrients and diet to begin with.  These domains are probably best left to true researchers that don't have a relationship with the pharmaceutical industry. I'm sure they got good info and bad info from some of the telecasts of Oz's programs.  However, you might want to read this study on the third leading cause of death in the USA  before you attack Oz or anyone else on their on vitamins, nutrients etc.

A recent study by Johns Hopkins, more than 250,000 people in the United States die every year because of medical mistakes, making it the third leading cause of death after heart disease and cancer.

Other studies report much higher figures, claiming the number of deaths from medical error to be as high as 440,000. The reason for the discrepancy is that physicians, funeral directors, coroners and medical examiners rarely note on death certificates the human errors and system failures involved. Yet death certificates are what the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention rely on to post statistics for deaths nationwide.

The authors of the Johns Hopkins study, led by Dr. Martin Makary of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, have appealed to the CDC to change the way in which it collects data from death certificates. To date, no changes have been made, Makary said.

‘The system is to blame’

Makary defines a death due to medical error as one that is caused by inadequately skilled staff, error in judgment or care, a system defect or a preventable adverse effect. This includes computer breakdowns, mix-ups with the doses or types of medications administered to patients and surgical complications that go undiagnosed.(https://www.cnbc.com/2018/02/22/medical-errors-third-leading-cause-of-death-in-america.html).

Unfortunately for Oz his show generated more controversy when companies decided to pretend Oz endorsed their products. This is the advertising and marketing jungle that is now America.  Could Oz have been more vigilant about these ads? Possibly, but if you think you can easily scan and take out these idiots on the internet just try it.  They just keep popping up.  "From 1999 to 2004, Oz was named a "Global Leader of Tomorrow" by the World Economic Forum and was listed on Time Magazine's "100 Most Influential People" of 2008." (Wikipedia)  However, I don't believe  Oz is a Globalist but Fetterman and his wife are definitely Globalists and their belief system proves it.

Abortion

Oz's stance on abortion has been variable.  He has stated that he only wants it in cases of rape, incest, and to protect the life of the mother but at other times he's been more moderate.  He also believes that life begins at conception and on some occasions said otherwise. He believes it belongs at the state level.

Health Care

On health care he appears to have a backed off on supporting Obamacare but does support some universal type of care for everyone. Many Medical Doctors now believe Obamacare does more harm than good and would rather see something else in its place.

LGBTQ Rights

Oz supports such rights but not the extreme gender therapies and the government should not be in charge but parents.

Marijuana

Oz supports it for medical use but not recreational use.

Summary:

Oz is juggernaut and has done a lot things. Some people may be jealous of his success while others see him as someone who became the "American Dream." He has many warts to say the least but so does everyone else.  I won't tell you whom to vote for.  But as a registered Democrat I will never vote for a charlatan like John Fetterman and his wife who are both non cognizant of what's going on in our society (it's intentional).  They are frauds and will destroy what's left of the middle class and the poor. Many Americans are suicidal when it comes to voting and Fetterman and friends have a good chance of wining thanks to a complicit media in manufacturing the myth of this "Blue Collar" worker.   Pennsylvanians deserve better but most are just playing with their phones and think some politician will lead them to the promised land.

Oz has his own baggage but his " political warts" may drive some people away from him.  Oz must be able to withstand the "early voting phenomenon" in Pennsylvania of legal and illegal ballots.  Fetterman's 420 crowd may prove too much of a political smokescreen to navigate through!
